About

Valerie Van Horn-Cotey, BASI®-CPT, PMA®-CPT has been participating and teaching in the fitness industry for over 35 years. She has taught aerobics, conditioning, Les Mills CXWorx™, ballet, yoga, Pilates Mat and is currently a certified Body Arts and Science International (BASI®) and Pilates Method Alliance (PMA®) Pilates Instructor.  She has been involved in many sports activities since childhood and through college (Springboard Diving, University of Washington), ballet for the last 25 years, and continues to enjoy ballet, swimming, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and mountain climbing.  And of course, Pilates.

Valerie started practicing Pilates apparatus 15 years ago due to back pain, which was rapidly resolved:  Pilates vastly improved her sports and dance performance and overall conditioning. Because of her extensive sports experience, Valerie promotes Pilates strongly to any athlete striving for the next level of performance enhancement and injury prevention.  She encourages mature clients with osteoporosis, degenerative joint disorders, or post-operative conditions to practice Pilates, as it can safely assist rehabilitation, and even prevent further degeneration for these conditions. Valerie believes above all that Pilates conditioning will ensure the strength and flexibility of the spine, keeping individuals of any age active and pain-free.  She finds great motivation in learning and incorporating contemporary principles of functional movement and applied kinesiology into her Pilates classes.

Valerie completed her Comprehensive Teacher Training Course program with BASI™ Faculty Instructor Brandon Gamble in University Place, WA. Designed and developed by BASI™ founder Rael Isacowitz, the program is unique in integrating both the art and science of human movement with a contemporary approach to the work of Joseph Pilates.
